Whether you're planning a fun outing with the kids, looking for something to do with friends or curious about some of the area's haunted history, we've rounded up a few ways to celebrate this year.

New England Ghosts at the Newbury Public Library

Have you ever heard a ghost story that made you wonder if there might actually be something to it?

New England has no shortage of stories about mysterious sightings and things that can't quite be explained. On Monday, October 19, at 6:00 PM, the Newbury Public Library is hosting a program that takes a closer look at some of those stories.

Join Jonah Knight for New England Ghosts, an evening exploring ghost sightings, paranormal experiences and local history from across New England.

This program is geared toward adults and offers a different way to learn a little history while hearing some stories that might just give you goosebumps. Best of all, it's free and open to the public!

Have You Heard the Ghost Stories About the Newport Opera House?

Speaking of ghost stories, did you know that the historic Newport Opera House has a few of its own?

The Opera House has been part of downtown Newport's history for generations. The original building was destroyed by fire in the late 1800s and later rebuilt, but it's not just the building's history that has people talking. Over the years, stories have circulated about strange sounds and unexplained experiences inside the Opera House. One of those stories involves a woman's voice reportedly being heard when no one else was around. The stories have even caught the attention of paranormal investigators curious to find out whether there's something more to them.

So, is the Newport Opera House actually haunted? Or are these just the kinds of stories that come with an old New England building? We'll leave that one up to you! 👻

Halloween Masquerade Dance Featuring Last Kid Picked

The Newport Opera House is hosting its Halloween Masquerade Dance on Saturday, October 24, from 8:00 PM to midnight, featuring live music from Last Kid Picked. Get your costume ready, gather some friends and head downtown for a night of music, dancing and prizes for the best costumes! And considering the Opera House's ghost stories, it's a pretty fitting place for a Halloween party. Grab your tickets online and make a night of it!

Ghostly Getaways with Nathan Gardner

If the Opera House ghost stories have you curious, here's an event you won't want to miss!

On Friday, October 30, at 8:00 PM, local paranormal investigator Nathan Gardner is coming to the Newport Opera House for Ghostly Getaways, an evening of real-life ghost stories and paranormal experiences. Nathan will share stories from his investigations of haunted locations across the country, including a few local spots, along with some of the evidence he's collected along the way. You'll also hear tips for planning your own paranormal getaway and get an exclusive first look at the pilot episode of his upcoming television series, Ghostly Getaways.

Want to take things one step further? Following the show, a limited number of guests can join Nathan for a paranormal investigation inside the Newport Opera House itself! Participants will have the opportunity to explore the historic building and see what, if anything, might be lurking inside. The post-show investigation is a separate, limited-capacity add-on and requires a ticket to the main show.

More Ways to Enjoy the Halloween Season

You don't need a big event on the calendar to enjoy this time of year!

Sometimes a simple afternoon of picking out pumpkins, stopping at a local farm stand for cider and donuts or taking a drive to see the Halloween decorations is just as much fun.

And if you're staying home? Carving pumpkins, making a favorite fall dinner and settling in for a Halloween movie sounds like a pretty good evening to us.

That's one of the things we love about fall in the Lake Sunapee Region. Whether you're heading out to a community event or enjoying the season at home, there are so many little traditions that make this time of year special.

Happy Halloween from the Lake Sunapee Region!

Whether you're dressing up for a night out, taking the kids trick-or-treating or staying home with a favorite Halloween movie, we hope you find a fun way to celebrate this year!

Wishing everyone a safe, happy and maybe just a little spooky Halloween! 👻
